Paul keen to use Canada T20 league as springboard to revive international career

first_imgKEEMO Paul is one of the Caribbean talented fast-bowling all-rounders around, but has not yet become a regular feature in the regional side. Paul, who, prior to injury during the England Test series recently, was a constant face in the limited overs team and has risen through the ranks to be one of their better ‘death’ bowlers. He was a part of the squad that helped West Indies qualify for the World Cup, but his omission from the current Windies World Cup squad is quite surprising. However, the 21-year-old, who is more famous for his ‘controversial’ mankading a Zimbabwe batsman during 2016 U1-9 World Cup, is not daunted by the omission, but is now focussing his attention to the second edition of six-team Global T20 Canada to be held in Brampton from July 15.Paul, who will play his first year in the league, was drafted by Montreal Tigers, at last Thursday’s draft.“Well I’m excited about the Canada league. It will be my first season and my first time in Canada also so I’m looking forward to it.Also it’s a good tournament to have some stand0out performances and get back in the West Indies team because West Indies is always my priority so I want to say thank you to the Montreal Tigers for giving me this opportunity, and by God’s grace I can repay them once given the opportunity,” Paul told Chronicle Sport Tuesday during an exclusive interview. Paul will be joined by some big names from world cricket, including New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, Andre Russell, Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz, Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, Faf du Plessis among others. He, along with fellow all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford who played with the West Indies B team last year, will turn out for Edmonton Royals. They are two of five players with Guyanese origin who were snapped up at the draft. The others are Canada-based Guyanese Dilon Heyliger, Jeremy Gordon and Mark Montfort. The second season of the Global T20 Canada league is set to begin on July 25, with defending champions Vancouver Knights facing hosts Toronto Nationals in the opening game. The tournament will have 22 matches, including three playoffs, with the final taking place on August 11.Montreal Tigers: George Bailey, Sunil Narine, Thisara Perera, Fawad Ahmed, Isuru Udana, Niroshan Dickwella, Keemo Paul, Muhammed Naveed, Kyle Coetzer, Matthew Ceoss, Nizakat Khan, Steven Taylor, Dilon Heyliger, Nikhil Dutta, Bupinder Singh, Arslam Khan, Yax Patel.last_img read more

49ers analysis: Why it’s OK Jalen Ramsey got traded to Rams

first_imgNo team is allowing fewer passing yards per game than the 49ers.Mortgaging their future drafts for a cornerback would have been bad business, compounded by an expensive contract extension, which they’ve already done at quarterback (Jimmy Garoppolo) and pass rusher (Dee Ford). The 49ers (5-0) are more than fine. As for the Los Angeles Rams, who just lost 20-7 at “home” to the 49ers on Sunday, they felt compelled to go for broke, perhaps literally, by trading Tuesday for cornerback Jalen …last_img

Laura Vandervoort Says No To SeaWorld

first_imgNaked and floating in a tiny tank of water next to a “Welcome to SeaWorld” sign, Toronto-born Smallville star Laura Vandervoort is putting herself in the place of captive orcas for a provocative new PETA ad campaign. The print ad directs viewers to SeaWorldOfHurt.com by proclaiming, “Come see Laura as she’s confined to a tiny tank and forced to perform tricks for your entertainment! Learn the truth behind the show and Boycott SeaWorld!”“We wanted to express the confinement and the torture and the agony and the anxiety that the orcas go through in a tank, for them, the size of a tub,” Vandervoort says in an exclusive video interview with PETA. “I had seen the movie Blackfish and not only did it make me cry … but it impacted me in a way that I wanted to do something, and I wanted to help.”While orcas in the wild travel up to 100 miles per day, SeaWorld confines them to tiny tanks in which they break their teeth and endure chronic pain from snapping and gnawing at the pool gates as a result of stress and aggression. At least 25 orcas have died in SeaWorld facilities since 1986—and not one died of old age.Vandervoort joins a long list of celebrities — including Bob Barker, Krysten Ritter, Behati Prinsloo, Joan Jett, Kathy Najimy, Tommy Lee, and Eli Roth — who have teamed up with PETA to speak out against amusement parks that keep intelligent marine mammals in captivity.last_img read more
